Ruud Gullit, a former Netherlands international, reportedly advised Erik ten Hag against taking the Manchester United position.
Due to the level of attention and pressure from the likes of Rio Ferdinand, Paul Scholes, Gary Neville, and other Old Trafford luminaries, Gullit claimed it was a “difficult job.”
Ten Hag is the favorite to take over at Old Trafford this summer from Ralf Rangnick, who has been on a temporary basis.
Gullit cautioned his colleague to be wary of the dangers he is about to enter, citing the ‘continuous pressure’ from former United players.
“Is it the right choice?” Gullit questioned on Ziggo Sport. That will have to wait and see. It will be a truly dreadful job.
“In the TV studios, there are all these former players: Gary Neville, Rio Ferdinand, Paul Scholes… The team is under constant pressure, which is not easy.
“The past players are always talking about you; you have a lot on your plate and you have to be able to handle it.”
