Who Was Michael Jackson?

Michael Jackson, sometimes known as the “King of Pop,” was a best-selling American singer, songwriter, and dancer. Jackson rose through the ranks of his family’s famed Motown group, the Jackson 5, as the main singer as a child.

He went on to have a phenomenal solo career, scoring No. 1 hits with the albums Off the Wall, Thriller, and Bad. Jackson’s final years were marred by claims of child molestation. He died of a drug overdose in 2009, just before embarking on a return tour, at the age of 50.

Early Life

Michael Joseph Jackson was born in Gary, Indiana, on August 29, 1958. Jackson began his musical career at the age of five, thanks to his father’s encouragement.

Katherine Jackson, Jackson’s mother, was a homemaker and a fervent Jehovah’s Witness. Joseph Jackson, his father, was a guitarist who gave up his artistic ambitions to work as a crane operator to support his family. Joseph pushed his sons to succeed behind the scenes. He was also said to have a history of becoming violent with them.

Rebbie, Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, La Toya, Marlon, Randy, and Janet Jackson were among the ten Jackson siblings who all made their mark in the music world.

In the early 1960s, Joseph believed his sons had talent and formed a musical group that would later be known as the Jackson 5.

The Jackson 5

The Jackson Family’s earliest performers were Tito, Jermaine, and Jackie Jackson, Jackson’s older brothers. When he was five years old, Jackson joined his siblings and became the group’s lead vocalist. For such a young artist, he displayed impressive range and depth, dazzling spectators with his ability to communicate complicated emotions. Marlon, Jackson’s older brother, also joined the group, which later became known as the Jackson 5.

Jackson and his siblings practiced and polished their act for hours on end. The Jackson 5 began their career by playing small-town shows and gaining a loyal following. They only released one single on their own, “Big Boy,” which had the B-side “You’ve Changed,” but the album did not do well.

Michael Jackson Wives and children

Jackson married Lisa Marie Presley, the daughter of rock legend Elvis Presley, in August 1994. The couple appeared together on television in a joint interview with Diane Sawyer, but their relationship was short-lived. In 1996, they divorced. Some speculated that the marriage was a publicity stunt to repair Jackson’s image following charges of child molestation.

Vitiligo and Michael Jackson Plastic Surgery

Jackson was severely burned on his face and scalp while filming a commercial for PepsiCo in 1984. Jackson had inked a $5 million endorsement agreement with the beverage giant the previous year, when he was at the peak of his game musically and commercially. Jackson underwent surgery to treat his injuries, and it is believed that about this time, he began dabbling with plastic surgery. In the ensuing years, his features, particularly his nose, would change considerably.

Around the late 1980s, reports circulated that Jackson was bleaching his skin to make it appear whiter and sleeping in a special room to extend his life. To put an end to the allegations, Jackson agreed to a rare television interview with Oprah Winfrey in 1993. He revealed that the shift in his skin tone was due to vitiligo, a skin disorder, and he spoke openly about his father’s mistreatment of him.

Michael Jackson Death

Jackson died of a heart arrest in his Los Angeles residence on June 25, 2009, at the age of 50. He was brought to the hospital after CPR attempts failed and he died later that morning. Jackson died of acute propofol intoxication, or a deadly overdose on a prescription medicine cocktail that included the sedatives midazolam, diazepam, and lidocaine, according to an official coroner’s report released in February 2010.
