Two motorcycle riders have admitted to killing Chimhurumnanya Udeh, a 21-year-old nursing mother, and selling her 11-month-old newborn son for N150,000 in Aba.
On Monday, June 21, the suspects, David Ogwo Orji, 21, and Chimaobi Anyim Kalu, 25, were paraded before newsmen and confessed to the murder.
The pair is accused of luring the victim to a hotel where they allegedly gave her yoghurt laced with piriton tablets, stabbed her to death with a shattered glass cup after she became unconscious, and then escaped with her child.
The event happened on April 15, 2022, at Merry Home Hotels in Aba, according to State Commissioner of Police CP Janet Agbede.
Agbede claimed that Felix Abengowe, the proprietor of Merry Home Hotels in Ogbor Hill, Aba, had informed the police of the crime’s discovery of a dead woman with a severe neck cut inside one of the hotel rooms.
“On April 16, 2022, at around 00:10, Felix Abengowe, the owner of Merry Home Hotels in Ogbor Hill, Aba, reported that a female dead had been discovered in one of his hotel rooms. She had a serious cut on her neck area. Detectives from the police were informed when they arrived at the site that the accused had killed the woman and then fled with her infant son.
Investigations led to the identification of the victim as Chimhurumnanya Udeh, a girl, 21 years old, a resident of No. 125 Umunkama Road by St Dominic Ngwa Road, Aba, and a native of Edda in Ebonyi State. The victim’s stolen infant, who was named Chimeremobioma Silver and was around 11 months old, was also located.
According to their confessional comments, the suspects gave their victim a medication that is a combination of yogurt and piriton tablets before stabbing her in the neck with a shattered glass cup, which caused her to pass away instantly. They also stole her newborn son, who was eleven months old, who they claimed was sold for one hundred and fifty thousand naira (150 000), which was split equally between them.
The suspects admitted to giving the deceased yoghurt laced with 8 piriton tablets in their confessional confessions to newsmen. They stabbed her in the neck with a piece of shattered glass after she passed out.
One of the accused, Orji, alleged that he was coerced into killing the victim by his friend Chimaobi Anyim Kalu.
According to him, the infant was abducted and delivered to Chukwuemeka James, who then sold the child to a female buyer for N150 000, which was split equally between them.
The suspects begged for pardon from the victim’s family and the wider public.
The CP claimed that increased efforts have been made to apprehend further individuals in connection with the murder and recover the small child allegedly sold.
Broken glass cups, black substance stained with oil paint, and CCTV footage on a flash drive were among the exhibits discovered with the suspects.
