Nine people were arrested after a man died in North West from what was thought to be a mob justice attack.
The 40-year-old man was accused of taking a child to his home and raping her there.
On August 10, people in Extension 8, Jouberton, which is near Klerksdorp, looked for a nine-year-old girl who had been reported missing to the local police station the day before.
Some of the people who were arrested were accused of trying to find the man they thought had taken the girl. Stones, sjamboks, and other things were thrown at him.
Lieutenant-Colonel Amanda Funani, a spokeswoman for the North West police, said that the police were called to the scene and the man was saved. He was taken to the hospital, and she said he died there.
A murder case was opened, and a malicious damage to property case was also opened. The people who were there are said to have stabbed a police Nissan bakkie and damaged its tyres, and then set it on fire.
Funani said that on August 19, three people were arrested and charged with damaging property on purpose. Six more people were arrested on Wednesday. They are being charged with murder and are due in the same court on Friday.
